Superfoods for your babies!

February 28, 2018

Who isn't familiar with the trendy term superfoods and its countless benefits for your body. You can read about them almost everywhere, promising us to boost your metabolism, cure illness and even reverse aging. Sign me up, please!

It seems quite easy for us to just add a bit of the magic greens such as kale or broccoli to our daily plates or even try a “green morning smoothie” to start your day. But, what about our babies? Is there such a thing like super foods for babies?

There is! As long as you use organic.

As our babies have very small tummies, it is even more important to make the food they eat as nutritious (and yummy) as possible.

Depending on your baby's eating skills, introducing other foods such as Holles organic iron fortified cereals and porridges, can be done starting at 4 months and you can make it even more of an adventure for your baby’s taste buds when adding superfoods to them.

Here are some of our favorite superfoods for babies and toddlers to be enjoyed by their own or add to their cereals or porridges:

BananasBananas: This sweet tasting fruit is packed with potassium, fiber, vitamin B and C and will boost your baby's energy while helping with an easy digestion. You can cut them in thin slices or mash them into cereals or porridges.

avocadosAvocados: One of our favorite fruits (yes, avocado is a fruit)! Our baby Eleanora eats as much as one a day! And we love that she does, as avocados contain excellent fats for a healthy brain development, are high in protein for muscle growth and are a great source of vitamins and minerals. Avocados are a great first food for any baby!

carrotsCarrots: Soft cooked carrots have not only a stimulating orange color but are also great for your baby's vision because of its high source of beta-carotene and vitamin A. Our babies love carrots with their Holle organic rice porridge cereal, especially for a filling lunch and dinner.

applesApple Puree: Apples are great because they contain two different types of fibers, insoluble fiber and soluble fiber, which are great for your baby's bowel movement and are also rich in vitamins and potassium. Apples are an extremely good food for babies.

sweet potatoSweet potato or cooked Yams have a great nutritional value being high in vitamin A, beta carotene as well as potassium vitamin E, calcium and folate. Their sweet flavor makes them a delicious choice for your baby.

And remember:

Don't give up if your baby rejects a new vegetable or fruit as it can take up to 10 times for your baby to start liking something new! It is very important to give your baby a big variety of foods before they turn 1 year as the window closes for your baby’s taste buds to enjoy new foods.

Whichever fruit or vegetable you choose to feed your baby first, always make sure it's organic and consult with your baby's doctor should you suspect an allergic reaction.
