GO ON A LEAF HUNT
With the leaves changing colors and falling off the trees, nature is simply stunning right now! Grab your little ones and bring along a bag or even a butterfly net to capture a few tokens from your backyard or a nearby park. Encourage young children to find as many leaves, acorns or wildflowers as they can and once they are collected, sit on a blanket to sort them by color and size! If you have a baby, allow them to simply feel the different textures and listen to the soft noises of rubbing the different items on the grass or on a nearby tree trunk. Want to repurpose those treasures after your little ones are done with them!? Arrange them in an empty vase or decorative bowl to bring a little natural beauty inside your home for the season. Your children will be delighted to see their fun finds displayed inside!
CAPTURE THE MOMENTS
Be sure to capture the magic of your child's age and stage with some impromptu photos! Use a backdrop such as trees, sunflowers, or even an array of pumpkins and gourds and grab your camera! There is so much joy found in capturing a child's natural response and by allowing them to explore these surroundings, they will most likely stay still long enough for you to snap some photos! Also, be sure to get yourself in those photos. Hand the camera off to someone else every so often that you soak up the wonder alongside your little ones! When outdoors, try to avoid capturing pictures in the direct sunlight, that way you won't have to deal with shadows on your photos. Instead, find a shady spot that allows in natural daylight and that should provide the perfect lighting. Want to enjoy those moments just a little bit longer once they are through!? Have a couple of those shots developed and display them in a few frames near your entryway or up on the mantle as the perfect compliment to your seasonal decor!
EXPLORE SENSORY EXPERIENCES
The outdoors are very visually stimulating as the season changes. Empty out your summertime water table and put an array of items inside of it for your child to explore! Gather leaves, pumpkin seeds, even the guts from inside of a pumpkin, and encourage your little ones to dig right in! Practice hiding little toys underneath the materials and make it a game to dig them out. You can even expand on this one by raking a bunch of piles into the middle of your yard and having your child jump right in. Babies love this one, too! As long as you monitor them during this experience, they can enjoy holding each item and squishing them in their tiny fingers.
