Warming Baby Foods For Wintertime

February 18, 2025

In the wintertime, warm and comforting meals are a perfect way to keep little tummies full and little bodies cozy. Purees that are rich in color and nutrients, with flavors that entice tiny taste buds, are perfect for whipping up this season. Here are some new recipes to try when chilly winter days are upon you!

Gather Materials

There are a few materials to have on hand that can ease the process of pureeing baby food. Here are some of our favorite items:

  • Peeler
  • Knife
  • Strainer
  • Food Processor or blender
  • Airtight containers for storage

Select Food Items

An array of organic fruits and vegetables are key to making these recipes. Adding protein sources such as organic meat are also a great ingredient to add to purees. Here are some fruits, vegetable & meats to try in the wintertime:

  • Butternut squash
  • Spaghetti squash
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Pumpkins
  • Carrots
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Bananas
  • Cranberries

Adding organic formula or breastmilk to these recipes as a way to adjust the consistency of your purees is helpful! You can browse an array of organic formula options to try here.

Tips

  1. When it comes to storing baby food, only store baby food that has not been offered to your little one. You can do so by placing the untouched puree in an airtight container and placing it into the fridge or freezer as soon as you finish cooking.
  2. Always discard any puree your little one tries, even if some is leftover. This is to prevent bacteria from forming in a mixture that has been combined with baby's saliva.
  3. Storing leftover puree in a freezer safe container is a great way to ensure you will have some extra to thaw and serve up at a later date. You could even set aside a couple of small portions to offer as a teething popsicle as needed!
  4. It is typically best to serve refrigerated purees within two days of making it to ensure it is offered fresh.
